is tale about modern China and the contemporary world in general. Written by the most produced living playwright in mainland China and the Deputy General Manager/Director of the Studio and Arts department of the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre – Nick Rongjun Yu - the play explores the political, social and economic changes that mould and transform the lives of 3 generations of a family.

A promise given and broken shapes the lives of a man, his daughter and his grandson and links them with a set of characters drifting in the no man’s land between Shanghai and Singapore, with no place to call home.

Originally written in Chinese, Shanghai Repertory Theater brings the English translation of the play to the Edinburgh Fringe for its European Premiere! Shanghai Repertory first premiere the english language version of Drift in Shanghai in September 2010 and then again at the Shanghai International Contemporary Theatre Festival in November of 2010.

Performed by an international creative team who all call Shanghai home the production offers the audience a glimpse of contemporary Chinese theatre combined with multimedia projections and an original score.

The European première of Drift runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 3rd -29th  August at the Dairy Room, Udderbelly’s Pasture. 1PM. No show on 17th.
